On a quest for answers?

Postby Charlie » 28 Jan 2010, 12:51

After not finding the reason or cause I went on a bit of mission to try and solve the mystery myself. I'm not much of a Miss Marple since my quest was unsuccessful but I did come across a few clues along the way. I compared notes with other Daisy members, went for heaps of tests and a few of us shared common medical histories. I have other autoimmune issues like vitiligo but does that really mean that I will now suffer from all manner of autoimmune problems or is this a side effect of something else? Not enough research has been done but I question everything now and don't discount the volume of antibiotics prescribed to me as a child nor other gyne issues which I experienced over the years. After a while I had decided to stop being a paranoid wreck and acknowledge that I had to just get on with things until recently.....

My sister who doesn't have this condition but 2 x children who have different health issues of their own decided to start her own quest to see if there is a genetic link common throughout. We have both had the fragile X check etc which were fine but there are other chromosomes which can be damaged / inherited etc.. I am waiting for outcomes before I post anymore but want to see if there are more to genetic links than currently documented or if other external factors have caused this. Perhaps I did it to myself somehow :'(

Anyways the more we share about suspected causes and the more common the links, this will help us build a case to help further research. If this forum takes off and people feel the same, we could start a poll or survey.

Any thoughts?

Hi Charlie
I am the only member of my family to go through a premature menopuase. As far as I know I dont have any auto immune diseases. I dont smoke and hardly ever drink. Ive always looked after my body, exercised, maintained ahealthy weight and eaten healthy foods. The only thing I can think of was that for 3 years leading up to my premature menopause I was under tremendous stress due to family circumstances outside my control, studying for a post grad and a cert ed whilst teaching full time.

Wishing you all the best with your search for answers and peace of mind

Hi,

My sister has two healthy children but my mother had early menopause at 45. Sadly my mother never mentioned this before I asked during my diagnosis. The literature I have read does not state if this is a direct link to POF. I am quite angry as it has been 8 months of tests and waiting. I believe it started years ago and questioned the doctors but no clear answers. I was under a lot of stress for a few years as well as having bilary colic last year, eventually had my gallbladder removed June last year. I though the side affects of POF were related to my gallstones as I was very ill for such a long time. I asked the doctor about the link between gallstones, oestrogen and cholesterol, but she did not think they were linked. I've also had a history of a breast fibroid and a cyst. It just seems strange to me that they are not linked to a hormonal imbalance.
Diagnosed at 36, no children and still coming to terms with everything.
