How do I know if it's POF?

Hot flushes
Intermittent / no periods
Headaches

When I stopped taking the pill I started to experience a lot of headaches and extreme hot flushes. For months the doctor told me it was stress and I trusted that this was the case and accepted it. I had numerous blood tests and no reason to dispute this but it turned out that only general blood counts were taken. I used to joke about the symptoms saying it must be premature menopause as it felt like it but how could it be as the doctor said no?? I ended up going back on the pill as my periods were intermittent and painful. This of course suppressed the symptoms. After a few years of coming on and off the pill, eventually having no periods, thinking I was pregnant all the time I noticed that hormones were the link I pursued it again. I got a 2nd opinion and my worst fears were confirmed.

If in doubt get a 2nd and 3rd opinion if necessary. You know your own body better than anyone and misdiagnosis for long periods of time can been very destructive not only physically but mentally.

Just to second what has been said, I was fobbed off by a doctor telling me it was stress as well. I went back to a different dr in the practice 6 months later, he said he would test me " to put my mind at rest". My FSH was 96, normal levels are around 10!! So yes, keep asking, you definitely know when something is wrong!
